ECOAT Whitepaper - Efficiency Through Organization

Efficiency Through Organization

Author:  Benjamin A. Hill, Brose Tuscaloosa, Inc.

Abstract:

New equipment and processes are not the only choices paintshops have to increase efficiency. At Brose, we have a captive shop, and we believe 5S is an important part of making sure we maintain the highest efficiency possible. I would like to help others see the benefits as well. To those unfamiliar with the 5S concept, it is a Japanese set of terms for continual orderliness - sort, set, shine, standardize, and sustain. We are a German company, but we have embraced the concept of 5S because, quite simply, it helps make our company money. A thorough 5S program can lead to reductions in downtime, reductions in inventory, improvements in safety, immediate recognition of abnormal situations, and several other benefits.
